MARIGOLD-SGCC Singapore Challenger 2025 marks the return of the PSA Challenger Tour to Singapore

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger Tour is set to make a return to Singapore with the inaugural MARIGOLD-SGCC Singapore Challenger 2025, scheduled to take place from 6 to 9 November 2025 at the Serangoon Gardens Country Club (SGCC). The event will feature a 24-man draw per gender and carry an equal purse of US$3,000 each.

The tournament marks the first Challenger-level event held in Singapore since the Singapore Open (which was upgraded to Gold in 2022-2024)  in November 2019. The PSA Challenger Tour is the second level for aspiring squash professionals to build their career, after the Satellite and before moving onto the PSA Squash Tour.

The return of this tier of professional squash highlights the growing profile of the sport and provides a platform for our national athletes to pit themselves against other professional competitors from across the regions.

Terence Teo, chairperson of the High-Performance Workgroup of Singapore Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) said, “We are excited to have a PSA Challenger event back on our calendar as events like these will shine a spotlight on the emerging talents from across Asia and serve as a huge inspiration for our junior athletes. We are also thankful to SGCC to be hosting us and hope that this will be the first of many events to be held in the club.”

Mark James, General Manager of SGCC said, “We are incredibly excited to bring the PSA Challenger Tour back to Singapore and host it at the Serangoon Gardens Country Club. We hope to make this a regular event hosted at the club in the years to come.”

The event will feature many rising stars from around the region, including Harleein Tan from Malaysia, who at the age of 16 is a runner-up in two PSA events, and holds multiple regional junior championships; Darren Pragasam, also from Malaysia who holds five PSA titles and holds multiple SEA Games medals in the squash individual and team events, and Tang Ming Hong from Hong Kong, China, who also holds five PSA titles, two Asian Games bronze medals for squash, and is the winner of the 2016 Singapore Open.

Team Singapore will be led by newly crowned National Champion Aaron Liang alongside runner-up Jerome Aw in the men’s event, while National Junior Champion Ong Zhe Sim will lead the women’s. The trio, who are set to head to the SEA Games in December, will be joined by 16 other Singaporeans, including 10 junior girls from the National Training Programme.

“It’s great that SSRA and SGCC have joined forces to have this Challenger event. There aren’t many of these around the region and I am very much looking forward to a good showing ahead of the SEA Games”, said Jerome Aw, who is seeded third in the event.

As one of the final events before the SEA Games in December, the MARIGOLD-SGCC Singapore Challenger serves as the perfect event for the athletes to gain some high level competition before heading to Bangkok, Thailand for the biennial regional games.

The event is supported by title partner MARIGOLD and hosted by the Serangoon Gardens Country Club. For more information about SGCC, please visit https://sgcc.com.sg/
