HCL Indian Junior Open 2024: Sashikumar Siblings Shine

The HCL Indian Junior Open 2024, an Asian Junior Super Series Platinum Event held in Indore, India, witnessed impressive performances from Singaporean siblings Kareena and Jackrish Sashikumar.

Fresh from her maiden win at the South East Asian Junior Individual Championships in Bangkok two weeks ago, Kareena Sashikumar continued her great run to emerge runner-up in the GU11 category. Kareena, who was top seed in the event, was upstaged by home favourite Divyanshi Jain in three closely contested games. Kareena had previously lost to Divyanshi in the same event last year at the same stage, but managed to pull together a much better showing this time round.

Her brother, Jackrish Sashikumar, secured 4th place in the BU13 category. Part of our elite junior programme, the joint-third seed crashed out to top seed Sheresht Iyer of India in the semi-finals over four games.

The Sashikumar siblings come from a family with a strong squash heritage, with their father being a former state junior in Penang and elder brother Anand also an avid competitor in our local scene.

Their success at the Indian Junior Open, known for its tough competition with India being one of the strongest squash nations in Asia, is a testament that the Singapore team is heading towards the right direction..

We congratulate Kareena and Jackrish on their remarkable performances and look forward to their continued success in the sport.
