Team Singapore Athletes Claim Four Golds in Dymon Asia Lion City Junior Open 2026

7 June 2026

Singapore: Singapore’s junior squash athletes continued their impressive run of form by claiming four of the ten titles on offer at the Dymon Asia Lion City Junior Open 2026, following their strong performances at the recent Asian Junior Individual Championships.

The achievement marks a significant improvement on the team’s 2025 campaign, when Singapore secured two titles in the Boys’ Under-11 and Girls’ Under-15 categories. The Lion City Junior Open, an Asian Junior Super Series Gold event, attracted 300 participants from 24 countries.

Fresh from becoming Singapore’s first-ever Asian Junior Champion, Kareena Sashikumar led the charge by capturing the Girls’ Under-13 title. The top seed, who will join the Singapore Sports School next year, was dominant throughout the tournament, reaching the final without dropping a game. She maintained that flawless record with a commanding straight-games victory over Hong Kong China’s second seed, Tang Ching On, in the championship match.

Singapore completed a clean sweep of the Under-13 titles when Kaelen Evan Low secured the Boys’ Under-13 crown. The Singapore Sports School Secondary One student produced an equally impressive performance, defeating Malaysia’s Mior El-Fayedh Mior Ahmad Nazril 11-9, 11-5, 11-4 in the final. Like Kareena, Kaelen went through the entire tournament without conceding a game.

Twin siblings Naisha and Rehaan Singh completed Singapore’s quartet of champions by winning the Girls’ and Boys’ Under-17 titles respectively. Having both been crowned National Junior Champions earlier this year, the pair justified their top-seeded status with strong performances throughout the event.

Naisha successfully defended her Lion City Junior Open title, having won the Girls’ Under-15 category in 2025, with a convincing 3-0 victory over Hong Kong China’s Tang Ching Sum in the final.

Rehaan faced a sterner challenge in the Boys’ Under-17 final but demonstrated his resilience to overcome Japan’s joint-third seed, Toma Ikeda, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-3.

Singapore came close to adding a fifth title through Jacintha Han in the Girls’ Under-15 category. The Raffles Girls’ School student held a 2-1 lead against China’s Yin Ziyuan before eventually falling 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11 in a hard-fought five-game final. Despite the defeat, Jacintha can take considerable encouragement from her performance against Yin, who was crowned Asian Junior Champion just two weeks earlier.

The host nation also collected three silver medals through Mason Han in the Boys’ Under-11 category, Jackrish Sashikumar in the Boys’ Under-15 category, and Jacintha Han in the Girls’ Under-15 category.

The Singapore junior squad will next travel to Manila, Philippines, where they will compete in the Southeast Asian Junior Individual Championships beginning this week.
